Tagging Instructions

  • NEW - use our green tags or index cards!
  • Every item for sale must have a tag.
  • Start tagging now. Don't wait until the last minute - you will forget some great items!

What you will need:

  • Tags.
  • Heavy clear packing tape (works much better than scotch tape).
  • Ziplock bags for loose items.
  • Children's clothing hangers (you can buy these inexpensively at Dollar stores, Target & Wal-Mart).
  • Safety pins/stapler.

The Tag - Complete top and bottom with identical details

  • Please fill out the index cards or paper stock with complete information such as size, brand and price.
  • When filling out your tag, use blue or black ink. If you want your items to be sold for half price on Saturday, then fill your tag out completely with red ink.
  • Write your consignor number on the tag eg. #123 (never write your name).
  • If your item does not sell, you can opt to donate it to charity by writing a "D" in the top left hand corner of the tag. Please write all tags in RED INK that are being donated to charity. That way, they have a chance to sell for at least half.
  • If you make a mistake on your tag, then fill out a new tag. We cannot accept tags that have cross outs or changes on them. This is a security measure.
  • Think carefully about your sale price. Condition is very important. A rule of thumb is 30 - 50% of the brand new sales price if in excellent condition.

General Merchandise Preparation

  1. Bring only Spring and Summer clothing to the Spring sale and only Fall and Winter clothing to the Fall sale.
  2. All clothing will be examined upon drop-off for appropriate style, season & condition. Any clothes with stains will be returned to you.
  3. Wash & clean every item! Please remove stains, marks, etc. as best you can. (Hints & Tips on Cleaning - Stain Removal Page) For clothing click on the "Stain Detective" on the Tide website. Hanging items must be clean, on hangers and wrinkle free. Toys, Puzzles, Games and other items - we recommend using the Mr Clean Magic eraser. It removes crayon/ink/marker off most items (not clothing.)
  4. Inspect your items carefully. Be as discerning as if you were going to purchase them.
  5. Make sure to trim all loose threads and secure or replace missing buttons.
  6. Children's Clothing Items

    1. All clothing must be on hangers with the hanger facing to the left (like a question mark). Infant hangers work best for clothing smaller than size 2T.
    2. Wash your clothes, iron or press them so they are wrinkle free, then hang on hangers.
    3. All hanging items must be worth a minimum of $2.00 (two dollars). Hang several items together to equal $2.00.
    4. Staple or safety pin tags to inside shirt label or a location on the front that will not cause damage to the clothing. Consider taping the safety pin closed so that it may not be easily removed.
    5. Shorts, pants, & skirts - Staple or safety pin to the inside label. If item is a two-piece outfit, attach tag to the shirt label.
    6. Items that are smaller than a size 6 tend to sell better in sets, so match things up. Pin sets securely together by hanging the shirt first, turn the hanger over and pin the pants by the waist to the backside of the hanger using two pins, with the pin catching the hanger to support the pants. Both pieces can be easily viewed without unpinning. This will prevent lost items. Make sure to clearly mark that the item is a 2 or 3 piece set

    Maternity & Nursing clothing

    1. Follow same rules as children's clothing.
    2. Items must be placed on hanger, with hanger facing the left and item tags to be stapled or safety pinned to inside top label.
    3. All seasons of maternity clothing will be accepted; however, we ask that the clothing be in style. Please do not bring faded or out-dated clothing as they do not sell well.
    4. On larger clothing items, please secure items to hangers, especially if they have a tendency to fall off the hanger. Your item will not sell if it's on the floor.
    5. Pants or shorts sold alone should be pinned at the waist, not folded over the hanger. A great way to keep pants from sliding off is to use the paper covered dry cleaning hangers. They don't slide and keep your items neat looking. Dry cleaners will usually give you hangers.

    Shoes

    1. As with clothing, please make sure that the shoes are season appropriate.
    2. We will accept shoes that are in brand new or like new condition ONLY. Shoes that do not meet our criteria will be returned to you.
    3. All shoes must be in clear ziplock bags sealed with heavy packing tape.
    4. Tape your tag to the outside of the bag.
    5. Write the shoe size on your tag.

    Toys & Puzzles

    1. Toys that work will sell! Please wash or clean all items.
    2. Toys that require batteries must have batteries. If it does not work, it will NOT be accepted. Large packs of batteries can be purchased at Dollar stores very inexpensively.
    3. Puzzles and games should have all pieces and be in boxes, taped or tied closed.
    4. Toys with loose smaller pieces should be placed in a ziplock type bag, securely taped shut & attached to the outside of toy. Loose pieces will not be accepted. For example: a tool bench/box would have the smaller pieces in one large ziplock type bag, taped to the outside of the tool bench.
    5. No stuffed animals unless brand new with tags. We will accept "licensed" stuffed animals, without tags that are in very clean/new condition. An example would be anything Disney or Beanie Babies.
    6. Stuffed toys that have lights or sound will be accepted, providing they are clean & in good working condition.
    7. Please be considerate to shoppers. If it does not work or is incomplete then do not bring it to the sale.

    Books, Videos, DVDs

    1. Books can be sold individually or bagged together in groups. Please attach a tag to the outside of the book - on the back or the front.
    2. Please mark tags with details about the books enclosed (i.e. if it is a series or set).
    3. Tape your consignor tag to the OUTSIDE of the bag, for easier removal at checkout.
    4. When you have several books together, please write a general description i.e. pre-readers, 1st grade level, etc.

    Furniture & large play toys

    1. All furniture & large toy items must be in clean condition (please wash or wipe clean).
    2. We prefer that changing tables, bassinettes, toddler beds, etc. are assembled on site (please bring your own tools.) If you cannot reassemble the item then you must bring a photograph of the item fully assembled.
    3. Large indoor/outdoor play sets (i.e. Little Tykes or Step 2 items) must also be assembled at the drop-off time.

    Car Seats

    1. Car seats must not be over 5 years old. Please check the manufacturing date located on the bottom or side of the car seat.
    2. Please check for manufacturer recalls (research on manufacturer website).
    3. Unacceptable car seats will be returned to you, and not placed on the sales floor.
    4. When you purchase a car seat, you will be required to fill out a car seat waiver form.

Lost & Found Items or Missing Tags

    1. We will have a Lost & Found rack at the end of the sale. During pickup please check this area to make sure none of your items have become separated from their tag during the sale.
    2. We will not sell any item that has either no tag or has an altered (i.e. price change)tag.

Please email us with any questions you may have - or phone us at 214-418-3765. No question is too small and Carousel Children's Consignment wants you to be a very successful consignor!
